Blog Post 4: Historical Remix

America.

One of the most significant moments in world history, specifically American history, was when the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th. The colonies were finally independent from Britain. This day has inspired a massive holiday for Americans where everyone displays their American pride and fireworks go off. This event changed society and still has an impact on the world today. Without this historical event, there would be not United States of America.

However, what would that event look like in today’s day and age? How would social media react? In this blog post, I will recreate my vision for how social media would react if the Declaration of Independence was signed during an era of social media.

@FoxNews: BREAKING: April 1776: Colonial Ports have opened and ties with Britain are in jeopardy

@USA_Fan: @FoxNews Finally! I can’t stand Britain and their antics. All I want is freedom! I love the colonies! Lets end this war and get back whats truly ours!

@ThomasPaine: Check out my pamphlet called “Common Sense”. It advocates for the all the colonies’ independence from Britain. Lets get it viral!

@Philospoher101: Just read Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense” and I couldn’t agree more. Lets get away from Britain. All they do is hold us back! I want a free place away from those Brits. Come on!

@CNN: BREAKING June 1776: Richard Henry Lee introduces motion in Congress to declare independence.

@Thomas_Jefferson: Just finished the first draft of a Declaration of Independence! Looks good! Looking forward to being independent!

@BenjaminFranklin: @Thomas_Jefferson Good one. Let the experts take a look and we’ll get back to you.

@John.Adams: @BenjaminFranklin @Thomas_Jefferson Lets all work together here people. I care more about the greater good. But actually, its a good thing we are revising this or else the colonies would be screwed LOL. Should be presenting the declaration to Congress in the next couple days. Be on the lookout.

@CNN: BREAKING: Congress has adopted the final text of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 severing ties with Britain

@USA_Fan: LETS GO! We’re finally free! Can’t wait to celebrate this national holiday. Going to be bringing out the red, white, and blue. Anyone got any good fireworks I can buy?

In today’s day and age, social media is more prevalent then ever before. Specifically in politics, President Trump has revolutionized the way politics work by his Twitter use. By tweeting out real time thoughts, opinions, news, and much more, Americans feel like we are connected to Trump’s mind in some way whether we like it or not. By taking something from as far back as 1776, the use of social media during that time would change the whole landscape of how things would work. Updating the general public with news as well as trying to spread information would be a lot easier. However, this technology didn’t exist back then. Twitter has changed the landscape of politics by allowing common people to interact and read real time information. How much of our history would differ if we they had social media back then?
